"NYURI" pronounced in Korean as ( ?? ), translates to "The World." As NYURI tries to teach and learn as much of the varieties of Korean culture (e.g. poongmul , minyo , tal-choom ), we put our focus on the origins of poongmul ("the farmers dance") and its sister-in-art samulnori , which derived from poongmul and set for modern stage performance standards while sitting down.
Our Mission: To continue in education of the performing arts of traditional Korean drums ( poongmul ) throughout the NYU community and the NYC Metropolitan area. |
